1. Morning sickness

–  Many, but not all women suffer from morning sickness, mostly during the first trimester. Like many of things that make pregnancy such a bother, this is caused by the sudden onset of hormones. When suffering from morning sickness, you should eat frequent small meals so you are never too hungry or too full. Avoid anything too fatty or too spicy and aromatic, as this could aggravate your vomiting. Consuming ice chips when you feel nausea can give much-needed relief.

– Although it is closely associated with morning sickness, a heightened sense of smell is actually more common. Most women will suffer from this during the beginning of pregnancy and many suffer it throughout. To avoid vomiting, stay away from any strong and pungent odors such as spicy food, sweaty people who have been outdoors, and even strong perfumes.

– This is primarily caused by water retention, and usually heavier set women suffer from this. Cutting down on your salt intake helps.

– The best way to deal with stretch marks is prevention. Keep yourself hydrated as hydrated skin has more elasticity and is less prone to stretch marks. Avoid coffee, tea, soda, and stay out of the sun. If you are genetically prone to stretch marks, you may want to consult your doctor about lotions and creams you can apply during your pregnancy.

– Even if you aren’t the moody, temperamental type, there is a high chance you will be once you’re pregnant. This is due to the stress of pregnancy, as well as those pesky hormones again. Hormonal activity is natural in pregnancy, so it is never directly treated.  You can improve your mood though by taking care of yourself. Take all the recommended vitamins and supplements, eat right, and make an effort to stay positive.

Provided there are no complications though, you should still try to exercise regularly, as this will be good for both you and the baby. If you have the urge to sleep, and have nothing pressing to do, then by all means, sleep. The reason you are so sleepy, is quite simply because your body needs more rest as your baby is using up a lot of your energy.

– There are those who say there is no scientific basis for craving specific foods at specific times during a pregnancy. On the other hand, there are also those who say cravings are a body’s way of alerting you about deficiencies of specific nutrients, particularly carbohydrates. Women who have been pregnant will assure you that cravings are real. As long as a food has not been specifically “banned” by your doctor, go ahead and indulge your cravings. As with everything else though, just make sure you don’t overdo it.
